As a member of the military, Plumbing and Heating Technicians provide plumbing and heating engineering support to operational units at home and abroad.
The Plumbing and Heating Technician job is one of seven Construction Engineering positions involved in providing all construction, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering services in support of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) operations worldwide. The primary responsibilities include:
Work environment
Technicians often work under varying environmental conditions and maintain their skills while employed at home units or on operational assignments. Joining the Regular Force involves posting to a base after training, with potential relocations. The Primary Reserve Force allows part-time employment with a Reserve unit, typically one night per week and some weekends, with opportunities for full-time employment and deployment.
Entry options
No previous experience or related skills are required. Recruiters will assess if your interests and attributes match the role. The minimum education requirement is Grade 10 or Secondary 4 in Quebec, including math. Foreign education may be accepted.
Training
Initial training includes the Basic Military Qualification course at Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, focusing on core skills and physical fitness. Technical training occurs at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Gagetown, NB, lasting approximately 22 weeks and covering tools, regulations, drawings, brazing, welding, heating, plumbing, and gas systems. Opportunities for specialized skills development are available through additional courses and on-the-job training.
Part-time options
This role is available for part-time employment with the Primary Reserve across Canada, supporting local units, with training paid, and options for deployment and relocation.
