Job summary

A First Nation organization is seeking a Bylaw Officer to oversee local bylaw enforcement in Moose Factory. The ideal candidate will educate the public, investigate complaints, and collaborate with community initiatives. Strong knowledge of First Nation bylaws and a valid class G driver’s license are required. This is a permanent role with a three-month probation period.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience as a bylaw officer or police officer required.
  • Bylaw Officer Training preferred.
  • Must provide recent satisfactory C.P.I.C. (vulnerable check).
  • Valid class G driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the enforcement of local bylaws and regulations.
  • Monitor compliance and educate the public.
  • Investigate complaints and issue warnings or fines.
  • Collaborate with the Drug Task Force Department.

Job description

The Moose Cree First Nation Bylaw Officer shall oversee the enforcement of local bylaws, including band council resolutions (BCR’s) and regulations within the community. The ideal candidate will engage in activities such as monitoring compliance, educating the public, investigating complaints, and issuing warnings or fines as necessary. The Bylaw Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring a safe, orderly, and harmonious community atmosphere. Additionally, they will collaborate with the Drug Task Force Department on different initiatives and projects to establish the newly created Moose Cree First Nation Bylaw Officer program.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • College diploma or University Degree in the field of criminal justice, criminology will be preferred.
  • Additional education or certifications in law enforcement, legal studies, or related fields are an asset.
  • Bylaw Officer Training will be preferred.
  • Ontario Police College Certificate – Basic Constable Training will be required.
  • 3+ years’ experience as a bylaw officer or police officer will be required.
  • Strong knowledge of First Nation bylaws.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally and tactfully.
  • Knowledge of indigenous culture and traditions.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to handle challenging situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of drug enforcement practices, trends, and related legislation
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Working knowledge of the effects of drug and alcohol abuse
  • Willing to work overtime when required.
  • Must provide a recent satisfactory C.P.I.C.(vulnerable check) or proof of application.
  • Must provide copies of diplomas/certificates with resume.
  • Valid class G driver’s license is required.

Permanent with 3 months probation
