Teck's Trail Operations, located in the community of Trail in British Columbia, is one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Located in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern, British Columbia, Trail offers outdoor adventure at your fingertips.

Role Overview

Teck is looking for an experienced Group Superintendent, Community & Indigenous Relations to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Manager Commercial, the Group Superintendent, Community & Indigenous Relations leads the Trail Operations Community & Indigenous Relations team. Responsibilities include strengthening relationships with Indigenous Peoples, implementing agreements with Indigenous governments, supporting negotiations of new agreements, engaging local stakeholders and municipalities, managing community investment, delivering Cultural Awareness Training, ensuring compliance with Teck's Social Performance Standards and Sustainability Goals, and maintaining timely communications with employees, the public, media, and government.

This role reports to the Manager, Commercial and, due to sensitivity of material dealt with, is also accountable to the General Manager, Trail Operations.

This role is based in the welcoming community of Trail, situated in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Here you will find outdoor adventure at your fingertips! Key Responsibilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Leads Community & Indigenous Relations function, setting objectives, resources, and budgets aligned with Trail Operations Plan and Teck's Social Performance Standards
  • Collaborates with senior leadership and North American Business Unit to assess site performance and close gaps against Social Performance Standards
  • Oversees development and execution of the Annual Community & Indigenous Relations Plan
  • Drives indigenous cultural learning initiatives across the site
  • Manages implementation plans and participates in regulatory consultations with Indigenous and public stakeholders
  • Ensures compliance with Indigenous agreements and maintains agreement tracking systems
  • Coordinates Teck's participation in indigenous agreement committees and sub‑committees
  • Represents Teck with governments, community groups, and interest organizations and ensures accurate, timely information sharing
  • Partners with Corporate Communications to manage media relations, act as spokesperson, drafts releases, responds to inquiries, and organizes coverage for Teck events
  • Builds relationships with community, government, and industry groups; identifies synergies between Teck and stakeholder interests
  • Oversees development and execution of community and Indigenous Peoples investment plans
  • Produces communications that help employees better understand Teck's business, values, mission and vision, and how their work contributes to the company's success
  • Organizes tours, responds to community investment requests, public relations activities, ensures compliance with corporate standards
  • Ensures competent, well‑motivated staff through training, performance evaluation, and placement recommendations
  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of these strategies and report out regularly
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in social science, communications, indigenous relations or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum 10 years in indigenous engagement, social, communications, or community work
  • Experience with Indigenous customs and cultures, particularly BC Indigenous Peoples
  • Strong media relations skills and knowledge of Canadian/international media
  • Excellent written and oral communication and ability to build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Skilled in presentations, communications planning, and project management
  • Understanding of social media tools and their impact on corporate communications

Pay Range: CAD $119,000 - $165,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
