McMaster University is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager of IT to support its widely respected McMaster Nuclear Enterprise, as it undergoes an important organizational change initiative and supports growing and increasingly complex nuclear activities on campus. This role will focus on integrating the facility more closely into the university’s broader IT environment while ensuring the facility’s specialized nuclear IT needs are met.
Background
The McMaster Nuclear Enterprise operates all of McMaster’s nuclear facilities, including Canada’s largest research reactor, and supports licensed regulatory activities on and off the McMaster campus. Since its construction in 1959, the McMaster Nuclear Reactor has been a multi-purpose research reactor that provides neutrons for medical isotope production and scientific research. Enabling discoveries in medicine, clean energy, nuclear safety, materials and environmental science, while providing cancer treatments for more than 70,000 patients every year. By driving groundbreaking discoveries in energy, medicine and materials it fuels job creation and economic growth and offers unique training opportunities for future generations of nuclear leaders.
About the Position
The successful candidate will oversee IT service delivery, cybersecurity standards, desktop and frontline support services, and integration with enterprise-wide systems, including Microsoft productivity tools, Campus Relationship Management (CRM), and other key tools that will provide efficiency and technology enhancements to the facility. Given the highly technical and security-sensitive nature of nuclear research and operations, this role requires a balance of enterprise IT leadership and deep knowledge of mission-critical, highly regulated IT environments.
This position will formally report into the Office of the Associate Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (AVP and CTO), and specifically to one of the UTS Directors. The position will also report to the Chief Nuclear Officer, and will be fully focused on the technology and IT Services and Systems needs of the McMaster Nuclear Enterprise, leading IT personnel and providing support in that area.
