We are hiring a seasoned legal professional to join our team as Senior Legal Counsel, Canadian Operations, supporting our Côté Gold and Westwood Mines. This role is based in Sudbury or at a mine site, with travel as required, and reports to the Vice President, Ontario & General Manager Côté Gold, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Deputy General Counsel at Corporate.
As Senior Legal Counsel, you will serve as a trusted advisor to site leadership, providing strategic legal guidance and helping shape operational decisions. You will lead the negotiation, drafting, and management of a wide range of commercial agreements, including procurement, construction, engineering, and service contracts. You will also support the implementation of contract management processes at site, ensuring alignment with corporate standards and supply chain practices.
In this role, you will act as a key legal resource for site leadership, offering insights on legal risks, regulatory developments, and compliance matters. You will also serve as corporate secretary for the Côté Gold Joint Venture, and play a vital role in aligning site-level legal practices with IAMGOLD’s broader governance standards and legal strategy. Your work will include supporting Indigenous and community agreements, contributing to enterprise risk management, and liaising with Corporate Legal and Supply Chain teams to refine contract terms and mitigate risk.
This position requires a high degree of autonomy, sound judgment, and the ability to build trusted relationships across both site and corporate functions. You will be expected to navigate complex legal and operational contexts, influence executive decision-making, and contribute to shaping the legal culture at site.
To be successful in this role, you should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law and be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. You bring 8 to 10 years of experience in commercial or corporate law, with a strong track record in negotiating and drafting contracts. Experience in the mining, oil & gas, or construction sectors is preferred. You are well-organized, able to work under pressure, and possess excellent communication skills in English; French is a strong asset. Familiarity with environmental laws and regulations is also beneficial.
We recognize that great talent comes in many forms. If you’re ready to contribute your legal expertise, collaborate across disciplines, and help shape the future of our Canadian operations, even if you don’t meet every qualification listed, we encourage you to apply and bring your unique perspective to our team.
