The Technologist is responsible for the efficient and effective completion of ordered DI examinations and the day-to-day operation of the Ultrasound area within the Diagnostic Imaging Department. They apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology to analyze sonographic data, distinguish normal and abnormal findings, and identify specific diseases and conditions. They are also responsible for the safe dispensing of controlled energy sources as defined by the Regulated Health Professional Act, including ultrasound energy.

1. Prepare exams and equipment, including cleaning rooms and equipment, changing and preparing patients, preparing contrast, arranging necessary equipment, and prioritizing waiting exams.
2. Perform Ultrasound Exams according to current and future training opportunities within CMRITO guidelines.
3. Adhere to standards of practice set by the Canadian Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
4. Confirm patient and exam identification (Double Identify), obtain consent, and assist Physicians as needed.
5. Perform only those controlled acts authorized, exempted, or delegated under legislation, following the Comprehensive Guidelines.
6. Ensure parameters are correctly marked on images, and examination results provide all requested information.
7. Carry out ordered procedures, assess patient condition during treatment or procedures, and respond accordingly. Determine if images are of sufficient diagnostic quality or if additional or repeat images are necessary. View and complete exams and paperwork in PACS and Meditech at exam completion.
8. Provide a Technologist Findings report to the Radiologist.
9. Assist with student training, instruct, supervise, and help with case and student evaluations as requested.
10. Troubleshoot technical equipment problems and determine when to call service.
11. Complete all mandatory education required for employment, such as CPR, PCI, and WHMIS.
12. Commit to safety for themselves, colleagues, patients, volunteers, and visitors, supporting a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events.
13. Order departmental supplies and requisition maintenance services as needed.

1. Graduation from a recognized accredited school of Medical Ultrasound.
2. Registration with C.M.R.I.T.O.
3. Maintain professional liability insurance during employment.

1. At least 3 years of Diagnostic Imaging experience (may be gained during training).

1. Knowledge of SPD policy on endocavitary probe disinfection.
2. Proficiency with PACS and RIS Diagnostic Imaging modules.
3. Knowledge in using MEDITECH HIS/RIS, and ultrasound units for general, small parts, obstetrical, and vascular procedures.
4. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and telephone skills.
5. Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
6. Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, stressful environment as a team member.
7. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
8. Effective time management and organizational skills.
9. Strong communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking.
