Senior Accountant (Permanent, Full-time)

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of a dynamic not-for-profit club environment. This role is responsible for full-cycle accounting and payroll, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, statutory remittances, and financial reporting. It also plays a key role in supporting the Club's capital projects and strategic planning initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, sound judgment, a strong sense of ownership, and the ability to demonstrate leadership, initiative, and a highly collaborative approach within a high-performance team. Demonstrated leadership in maintaining a strong internal control environment and ensuring compliance with financial policies is essential.

Hours of Work

40 hours per week, typically, Mon-Fri, 9:00am-5:00pm with flexibility and ability to work from office at least 4 days a week required.

Total Compensation Package

Your total annual compensation package including your salary, perks and benefits offered by the Club is up to $95,040.

Your total annual compensation package includes the following:

Your annual base salary will be $75,000

Group Health benefit: It covers medical, prescription, dental and much more (value up to $5,400)

RRSP: You can also participate in our RRSP program, where The Club will match your contribution up to 5%. (value up to $3,750)

Fitness Reimbursement: You may also take advantage of our Fitness Reimbursement Plan where the Club will reimburse up to $60.00 of your health activity fee each month. (value up to $720)

Daily Staff Meal: Including daily lunch, coffee, teas, and soups, which are provided to all employees as a part of TLTC Staff Meal Benefits Plan (value up to $5,520)

Personal Emergency Days: You are also eligible for 9 paid personal emergency days a year

Bonus: Your maximum performance based bonus will be equal to 5% of your annual salary (value up to $3,750)

Career Development Fund: Your career development fund that has been designed to reimburse any webinars, seminars, classes or courses that will help advance your career at the Club. (value up to $300)

Cell Phone Reimbursement: The Club is also offering a monthly phone reimbursement plan to select employees. (value up to $600)

Experience

  • Full-cycle Canadian payroll administration: Minimum 3 years
  • Senior or supervisory accounting role: Minimum 3 years
  • Balance sheet reconciliations: Minimum 3 years
  • CRA remittance administration (e.g., payroll tax, HST): Minimum 3 years
  • Month-end close processes and journal entries: Minimum 3 years
  • Reporting directly to senior leadership (Director or above): Minimum 2 years
  • Not-for-profit sector: At least 1 year (preferred)

Technical and Functional Competencies

  • General accounting and payroll systems
  • Cash flow forecasting and oversight
  • Accounts payable and receivable operations
  • Capital project tracking and budget monitoring
  • Month-end and year-end processes, including journal entries and subledger closures
  • Reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
  • Preparation of financial statements and reporting packages
  • Administration of all annual filings, including T4s, EHT, WSIB, and other statutory requirements
  • Strong understanding of internal control environments and compliance with financial policies and procedures
  • Experience preparing audit working papers and supporting year-end audits

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proficiency with accounting and payroll software systems, preferably ADP
  • Ability to use technology to streamline financial processes and improve operational efficiency

  • CPA designation (preferred), or currently working toward designation

Ability to commute to 44 Price St, Toronto, ON Canada is required.

What A Typical Workload Looks Like

This is a permanent, full-time position. You will be responsible for performing the following duties:

Ongoing

  • Overseeing cash flow requirements and prepare cash flow forecast
  • Oversee Accounts payable and Accounts receivable functions and employees
  • Maintaining an effective filing system for detailed financial records
  • Maintaining records of organization\'s credit card transactions
  • Payroll masterfile maintenance

Bi-weekly

  • Full cycle payroll administration

Monthly

Leading month-end close process, including

  • Closing all subledgers;
  • Preparing journal entries for review by management and posting to general ledger;
  • Tracking accrued expenses and ensuring completeness of liabilities recorded in general ledger;
  • Reconciling all balance sheet accounts on monthly basis;
  • Preparing financial statements
  • Preparing bi-weekly payroll tax remittance
  • Preparing monthly HST returns
  • Tracking spending on capital projects to ensure expenditures do not exceed budget
  • Supporting ad hoc analysis as required

Annually

  • Assisting in preparation of working papers for annual audit of financial statements
  • Preparing annual T4 information return for review by management
  • Preparing annual EHT and WSIB returns
  • Preparing all annual tax filing requirements
