Overview

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

As a member of the patient care team, the Registered Respiratory Therapist provides diagnostic data, therapeutic intervention, and ensures the safe and appropriate application of a variety of respiratory equipment.

• Provide diagnostic data and therapeutic interventions as part of patient care.

• Ensure the safe and appropriate application of respiratory equipment.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from a recognised Respiratory Therapy program and eligible for registered membership with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).
  • Life Support "C" Certificate required; Instructor's Certificate is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with others and to work in highly stressful environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision and to make decisions in emergency situations and establish priorities.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to carry out the duties of the position and to operate related office equipment.
