Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Mine Engineering or a related field required.

Mine Engineer in Training (EIT)

The Mine Engineer in Training (EIT) supports the delivery of reliable, consistent and timely information pertaining to mine budgets, surveying, drill & blast, mine design and mine planning activities. They work collaboratively with others to develop, calculate, design, engineer and schedule mining activities for Côté Gold. They report and communicate progress and participate in various mine projects and business improvement initiatives.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties
Area 1: Mine Design, drill & blast, and infrastructure designs
  • Develop mine plans and mine designs consistent with industry best practices.
  • Coordinate survey pick-ups and mark-ups with the surveyor and technicians
  • Evaluate trade-offs and recommend solutions.
  • Complete Quality Assurance and Quality Control inspections in the field.
  • Maintain tracking and databases of production data.
  • Prepares reports and written materials related to technical recommendation and improvements to the mine plan and mine design.
Area 2: Mine Planning
  • Interface between stakeholders and transfer information into mine schedule and Gantt chart
  • Keep production and scheduling activities up-to-date and produce forecasts when required
  • Provide guidance in daily field follow ups and ensure execution is compliant to plan.
  • Track and monitor completion of mining activities by checking the state of progress in the field, compliance to the plans and specifications issued and report completed work.
  • Run pit optimization and simulation tools and interpret results.
  • Produce daily, weekly, monthly and yearly plans.
Area 3
  • Seek and implement best-in-class practices.
  • Propose new methods to meet challenges of mine engineering.
  • Coordinate and track projects
  • Provide new approaches, methods or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve mining processes, technologies and methodologies used for the mine.
Geotech, tailings and water analysis, designs and inspections
  • Mapping and modelling of pit wall structures to identify potential unsafe conditions and propose mitigations.
  • Conduct field inspections of pit walls and stockpiles and identify any potential concerns.
  • Conduct dam inspections to ensure good performance and review instrumentation data regularly (VWPs, SAAVs, survey pins).
  • Conduct 3D tailings deposition modelling in software such as Muk3D.
  • Monitor water levels of various ponds on site and work with operations team to ensure pumps are set up at required locations.
  • Monitor tailings deposition performance against the plan by checking spigotting in the field and working with operations to adjust deposition as needed.
  • Collaborate with environmental team to ensure full permit compliance for all tailings and water related works.
Control Room: Autonomous System Builder
  • Ensure the integrity of the mine model (road network, locations, equipment etc.) and that it accurately reflects mine operations reality.
  • Plan, validate and update any physical changes within the Autonomous Operating Zone (AOZ) to the Mine Model either in the field or control center.
  • Interpret designs (Shift plans, dump development, ramps, roads etc.) to adjust model accordingly.
  • Follow and trend key productivity metrics.
  • Report and action any in-cycle interruptions caused by field/operational conditions such as road quality, road design, setup of load and dump areas.
  • Accurate completion of documentation and data entry where necessary.
Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

Post-secondary degree in Mine Engineering or a related field is required. Registration as an Engineer in Training in Ontario (PEO). Previous experience in open-pit mining is considered an asset. Proficiency in computer applications and mining softwares. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to work independently and in team settings. Ability to work effectively under pressure. Good observational and analytical skills. Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality.
