The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) offers challenging and exciting careers in health and social services delivery and administration in Canada’s North. The Territorial Authority has service locations in communities across the territory and a staff of more than 1,600 serving over 43,000 residents of the NWT and 5,900 residents of the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut. The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) delivers most health and social services across the Northwest Territories (NWT), except in Hay River and Tlicho regions. It serves around 43,000 residents across 1.2 million square kilometers, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations. Over 1,400 staff provide a full range of services, from primary to tertiary care, including mental health, addictions, and family services. While Hay River and the Tlicho Community Services Agency operate under separate boards, NTHSSA sets clinical standards and monitors compliance through service agreements. Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH) in Yellowknife is the referral center for the NWT and the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut.
The hospital, with 100 inpatient beds, offers inpatient, outpatient, and outreach services. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), particularly in the Obstetrics (OBS) Unit, provide care to ante- and postnatal mothers and newborns, assist in cesarean sections, and offer neonatal resuscitation. LPNs are expected to work across various units, manage patient care plans, administer medications, and collaborate with the health care team.
