Job summary

A senior living community is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a part-time evening role. Responsibilities include administering medications, monitoring resident care, and ensuring adherence to safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have graduated from an accredited program and be registered with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta. This position offers competitive hourly wages based on experience.

Qualifications

  • Certified for administration of oral medications, narcotics, and subcutaneous injections.
  • RAI/MDS competency is required.
  • Previous experience in geriatrics or long-term care preferred.

Position: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) | Position Number: DCC9000PT71016 | Status: Part Time Evening | FTE: 0.56 – Temporary | Wage: $27.12 - $35.51 per hour (dependent on qualified experience) | Posting Closing Date: September 24, 2025 at 0900H

Responsibilities
  • Serve as an advocate to ensure that the Resident's needs are met.
  • Participate in staff development and orientation.
  • Adhere to and promote Infection Control practices.
  • Assess, monitor, implement, evaluate, and document Resident care.
  • Be responsible for Resident admissions and discharges.
  • Communicate with Residents, families, and staff.
  • Report changes in Resident status to RN.
  • Prepare and administer all medications including narcotics, with the following modalities:
    • Oral
    • Subcutaneous, including hypodermoclysis
    • Transdermal (creams, ointments, patches)
    • Vaginal
    • Rectal
    • Intramuscular (I.M.) with certification
    • G-tube medications
    • Inhalations
    • Sublingual
    • Eye/ear GTTS
  • Prepare and administer insulins (all insulins must be double checked and co-signed by another RN or LPN).
  • May administer heparin or adrenaline (must be double checked and co-signed by another RN or LPN).
  • Administer PRN medications including narcotics and standing orders.
  • Independently initiate standing protocols for bowel care.
  • Check and sign drug deliveries from Pharmacy.
  • Supervise and ensure competent care is provided by team members.
  • Assist with the enforcement of Fire and Safety and OH & S regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Education
  • Education and Training
    • Graduate from an accredited School of Licensed Practical Nurses.
    • Current Registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.
    • Certified for administration of oral medications, narcotics, and subcutaneous injections.
    • Completion of Physical Assessment Course.
    • Intramuscular injection course and certification in CPR is preferred.
    • RAI/MDS competency is required.
  • Personal Attributes
    • Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
    • Good knowledge, attitude, and skills in dealing with geriatric and/or physically and mentally disabled persons and their families.
    • Maturity, tact, and the ability to relate to all levels of staff.
  • Prior Experience
    • Previous experience in geriatrics or long-term care preferred.
Working Conditions
  • The LPN position requires lifting, walking, reaching, bending, pushing, standing, and sitting.
  • In an average day, the employee spends 4 to 6 hours standing or walking.
  • LPNs must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs, with frequent lifting/carrying of 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to manage stressful work situations.
