Overview

General Practitioner with Special Interest in Addiction

Two Locum Positions at the Heartwood Centre for Women in Vancouver, BC. The Heartwood Centre for Women is a voluntary 90-day residential treatment program offering trauma-informed treatment for substance dependency and other concurrent disorders, including trauma. BCMHSUS provides a diverse range of specialized mental health and substance use services to adults across the province as part of the provincial mental health services continuum.

The BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS) provides clinical services and provincial leadership for system-wide improvement, including health promotion, knowledge exchange, and research and teaching. BCMHSUS is part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA).

The Role

The Physician would work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the care of clients to support recovery and rehabilitation during their stay in the program.

Responsibilities and Expectations

The interested physicians should be eligible for provisional or full licensure with CPSBC. Fellowship with the College of Family Physicians, or equivalent, is mandatory. Experience in addiction medicine is desirable. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the on-call schedule. Responsibilities and Qualifications

Successful candidates will have:

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
Core Competencies
  • Brings an understanding of Indigenous racism and broader systemic racism in healthcare, with initiatives to break down barriers and create a safe, belonging-focused environment informed by Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Awareness of Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism, and Indigenous Cultural Safety, and familiarity with foundational documents and legislative commitments (the Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
