A leading mining company in Ontario is seeking an experienced environmental professional to supervise a team, oversee compliance with environmental regulations, and implement management systems at their Detour Lake Mine. Candidates should have a degree in Environmental Engineering and extensive experience within the mining sector. This role offers a 14/14 work schedule with accommodations provided on-site.
Reporting to the Environmental and Sustainability Superintendent, you will be part of the Environment Department. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
Lead and supervise the site environmental team including coaching and developing staff and ensuring compliance to the site environmental monitoring program
Oversee Environmental Monitoring Program and supervise day to day operations of the department
Play a key role in development, maintenance and implementation of the Environmental Management System
Track consumables and field equipment supplies and inventory
Maintain compliance with all regulatory, permits, monitoring and reporting requirements
Monitor the impact of the operation on the natural environment, identify areas of risk and propose adaptive management strategies to mitigate impacts
Promote site awareness of environmental requirements and conditions for operations and provide support and advice to department heads on inclusion of environmental consideration in work plans
Undertake regular site audits to ensure compliance with policies and procedures
Ensure incident response measures are in place, lead investigations and prepare reports
University degree in an Environmental Engineering, science or environmental discipline
5-8 years progressive experience in an environmental role within a mining operation
1-3 years in a supervisory role with demonstrated success mentoring a team of professionals
Extensive knowledge of Canadian and Ontario legislation relevant to the mining industry
Practical experience with acid rock drainage and metal leaching assessment and monitoring
Knowledge of environmental management systems
Experience with SAP is considered an asset
Knowledge of the Ontario health, safety and environment acts and any legislation directly related to the mining industry
Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint
