Overview

Electrical Engineer responsible for supporting site electrical power distribution and infrastructure, encompassing planning, implementation, operation, and maintenance to ensure reliable and safe delivery of electricity across three systems: normal (up to 12.47 kV), emergency (up to 480 V), and uninterruptible power (120/208V).

Responsibilities

  • Design engineering and installation for electrical systems, including MCCs, circuit breakers, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Perform MRO style work (maintenance, repair, and operations).
  • Independently design, coordinate installation, and conduct field reviews of complex jobs.
  • Maintain and operate site electrical equipment and fire alarm systems.
  • Provide engineering support to improve distribution system reliability and safety.

Essential Skills

  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • P.Eng certification or 6 months from obtaining it.
  • Experience with site electrical distribution.
  • Expert level knowledge of electrical circuits, power system equipment, and power system analysis.
  • Understanding of grounding techniques for safety and EMI.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Codes (CEC) and Arc Flash standards.
  • Proficient in short circuit calculation and analysis.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as DraftSight and SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of engineering tools for analysis and simulation, such as SKM/ETAP or Easy Power.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in plant electrical engineering.

Work Environment

The team consists of 14 members, including electricians, electrical technicians, EITs, and other engineers. This position reports directly to the Group Leader of Electrical Services and frequently interacts with operational staff, researchers, engineers, and equipment owners. Collaboration with project proponents and design teams is common to develop designs, specifications, procure, receive, install, and commission new systems and equipment. External interactions may include vendors, consultants, and specialists from other laboratories. The position requires in-office presence 5 days a week.

This is a Permanent position based out of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $105000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
