What is the opportunity?

RBC is a leading provider of asset-based loans catering to a wide range of industries and client needs across Canada. As a Director on the Portfolio Management team for RBC’s Asset Based Lending ("ABL") business, you will manage a diversified portfolio of ABL clients in RBC’s Corporate Client Group within Commercial Banking. You will oversee all credit-related aspects of your assigned portfolio, proactively assessing risks and leveraging the bank’s wide suite of credit and related products to meet clients’ needs. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure optimal outcomes for our clients.

Your ability to manage client relationships and successfully partner with internal stakeholders to align RBC’s risk appetite with the needs of the client, will lead to your success in the role as you contribute to the overall growth of the ABL portfolio by retaining and growing existing clients by providing sound advice and recommendations.

What will you do?

Manage all aspects of an assigned ABL portfolio including:

  • Maintaining responsibility for credit renewals, amendments, annual reviews, portfolio reviews and credit documentation. Ensuring all documentation is reviewed, confirmed, accurate and enforceable
  • Establishing client calling routines as required & proactively coordinating other client credit needs
  • Proactively managing accounts by analyzing financial & collateral reports to ensure negative trends are identified early & measures taken to ensure RBC’s exposure is adequately protected
  • Overseeing and monitoring loan advances and collateral reporting to ensure that Clients are in compliance of reporting and financial covenants
  • Proactively identifying issues and opportunities to deliver advice and credit solutions tailored to meet client needs that are paired with appropriate recommendations to Risk Management and other internal stakeholders
  • Documenting management plans and exit/liquidation strategies for accounts when required
  • Retaining and negotiating profitable renewals with existing clients
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
  • Bachelors degree with a focus in business, accounting, economics, mathematics or other quantitative field
  • 3+ years of experience in client facing roles in a commercial, corporate banking or ABL environment
  • Able to demonstrate strong verbal communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal RBC partners
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Self-starter that is able to work independently and effectively prioritize various transactions and demands from partners internally and externally
  • Demonstrated financial/business acumen and experience in conducting financial/risk analysis to assess and structure banking solutions
Nice to Have
  • MBA and/or professional designation (e.g., CPA, CFA)
  • Familiarity with RBC credit processes and loan documentation
  • Previous banking experience with relationship management, structuring/writing credit proposals, credit processes, policies, and risk analysis would be a significant asset
  • French reading/writing/communication skills
