About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Commercial Payroll Officer to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services across our commercial workforce, supporting multiple payrolls and ensuring adherence to all statutory and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process end-to-end payroll for commercial employees in line with company policies and legislation
  • Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions
  • Administer statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, and pensions
  • Manage payroll queries and provide a professional service to employees and managers
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, RTI submissions, and year‑end processes
  • Reconcile payroll reports and liaise with finance on payroll journals
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data
  • Support audits and implement payroll process improvements
  • Work closely with HR and Finance teams to ensure data accuracy and consistency
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in a commercial payroll environment
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g. Sage, ADP, iTrent, or similar)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills preferred
Qualifications (Desirable)
  • CIPP qualification (or working towards)
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
