What you'll be doing

When you become a Commercial Banking Associate, you will join a team that has helped businesses reach their full potential for more than a century. Through a structured and comprehensive training program that includes classroom and on-the-job training, you will learn how to deliver flexible business solutions and provide dedicated and timely business expertise to help clients realize their goals.

The Commercial Banking team supports our account teams through client acquisition, relationship management and transactional support for client-specific financing solutions. As an associate, you will learn the products, processes, networks and functions to enable you to progress to the Relationship Manager role and oversee your own portfolio of clients.

You will assist Commercial Banking Managers with existing client relationships and new financing transactions by providing quality financial and industry analyses as part of the deal team. You will participate in all activities through the sales cycle to prepare you for the Relationship Manager role. You will also assist with business development initiatives focused on meeting growth targets and identifying business opportunities and financing solutions to meet client needs.

You’ll begin with Orientation Activities to help you acclimate to the team and role, gaining hands-on experience to rise to the challenge. You will complete a number of training sessions related to the role, including credit structuring, risk assessment and cash management, with ongoing coaching and mentoring from leaders and a Program Manager who will lead virtual learning sessions and guide Associates through the program.

You’ll have opportunities to develop soft skills such as business development, negotiation and networking.

  • You must be in your final year of post-secondary education pursuing a degree/diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related fields with an expected graduation date before May 31, 2026.

  • Work location: Exact city of work location will be confirmed later during the interview process taking into account the selected candidates’ preference. Mobility is an asset. Primary location is Whitehorse, Yukon but candidates from other regions will be considered.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. This role will be in office with occasional off-site meetings with clients. Salary Range for this role is $65,000 - $70,000.

Who you are
  • You have experience in the field and understand financial statements and accounting principles, including valuation techniques and cash flow analysis. Knowledge of commercial banking products and services is a plus.
  • You are data-driven and enjoy researching business growth opportunities, organizing analysis to support credit submissions including structuring and documentation.
  • You are passionate about people, enjoy building relationships, and engage in marketing and outreach to develop new relationships.
  • You collaborate well with a team and help provide guidance on treasury and cash management solutions that meet client needs.
  • You put clients first, proactively assessing needs and proposing solutions to deliver best-in-class service and proposals.
