A healthcare laboratory provider in Alberta seeks a qualified Clinical Biochemist to support clinical testing and provide consultation in rapid response hospital labs. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD and demonstrate effective leadership and communication skills. This position involves liaising with medical staff, interpreting test results, and participating in research and academic activities. Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is the sole provider of laboratory services in the province of Alberta. APL is seeking a full time (1.0 FTE), qualified Clinical Biochemist to join our team of clinical laboratory doctoral scientists and pathologists in Edmonton, Alberta. The position is based at our North Sector Hub Laboratory, which performs both high volume general chemistry and specialized chemistry testing and provides consulting services to laboratories outside of Alberta. The successful candidate will also support urban and rural testing at some hospitals across Northern Alberta. Periodic travel to sites is required. Experience with informatics and/or mass spectrometry is an asset. The successful candidate will be involved with teaching medical laboratory science students and mentoring/training clinical biochemistry fellows, pathology residents, and other visiting fellows.
This is a key clinical laboratory position within APL that reports to the Medical Lead of Clinical Biochemistry, Hub Laboratory, North Sector and the Clinical Biochemistry Section Chief, North Sector.
The successful candidate will have a PhD and be board-certified (i.e. FCACB or DABCC designation or equivalent) or be eligible for board certification in Clinical Biochemistry. The successful candidate must demonstrate effective communication, problem solving, project management, time management and leadership skills, and an ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, changing environment. Applicants shall possess a strong track record of collegiality with coworkers, academic accomplishments, and evidence of ongoing continuing education in clinical biochemistry.
