WHAT’S THE JOB?

This position is based at a Horizon North camp facility with a schedule of 20 days on and 10 days off, working 12-hour days. Transportation is provided from a designated pickup point.

As a Chef Manager, you will oversee daily kitchen operations, including ordering ingredients, menu planning, assisting with food preparation and service, staff training, and ensuring compliance with Horizon North Food Safety protocols.

This position is safety sensitive and requires drug and alcohol testing and a fitness assessment as a condition of employment.

Your responsibilities include:

  1. Preparing, presenting, designing, and serving high-quality rotational menus.
  2. Supervising kitchen staff productivity and adherence to policies, safety, and quality standards.
  3. Training, developing, and mentoring employees.
  4. Ensuring all food is prepared following FOODSAFE and HACCP standards, and Horizon North safety guidelines.
  5. Managing resources efficiently.
  6. Serving clients and staff professionally and courteously.
  7. Considering dietary restrictions, allergies, vegan, and vegetarian needs in meal planning.
  8. Conducting bi-weekly inventory checks.
  9. Communicating maintenance issues promptly.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Journeyperson or hold an interprovincial Red Seal Certification.
  • SafeCheck advanced food safety or HACCP certification.
  • At least 7 years of experience in hospitality/food service.
  • At least 7 years as a Chef in hotels, resorts, restaurants, or remote lodges, with expertise in international and domestic cuisines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) and GFS.
  • Experience with menu costing, recipe implementation, and wage control.
  • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge across kitchen areas: Hot, Cold, Pastry/Bakery, Butchery, and Banquets.
  • Effective leadership, a positive personality, and good listening skills.
