Position Summary
The Business Development Officer (BDO) will be responsible for identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities in target markets for ILD Inc.’s light gauge steel frame products and services. This role is key in growing revenue, expanding market share, and building long‑term partnerships. The BDO will work closely with engineering/design, manufacturing, operations, and marketing teams to align customer needs with product offerings and ensure successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- New Business Prospecting & Lead Generation: Identify and evaluate potential clients: industrial developers, contractors, architects, municipalities, prefab/modular home builders, etc.
- Use market research, industry networks, trade shows, and cold outreach to build a pipeline of qualified leads.
- Collaborate with marketing to develop campaigns, proposals, and collateral to support outreach.
- Sales Strategy & Market Development: Develop sales strategies and plans for target segments (residential, industrial, commercial).
- Analyze market trends, competitor offerings, pricing dynamics, regulatory factors (building codes, permits).
- Evaluate geographic markets for expansion / new opportunity.
- Client Relationship Management: Engage with key stakeholders: architects, engineers, general contractors, developers, municipal authorities.
- Understand client requirements, project constraints, and propose tailored steel frame solutions (modular panels, open web joists, pre-assembled envelopes).
- Manage quotations, negotiations, contracts, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Cross-Functional Liaison: Work closely with design / engineering teams to ensure proposals are technically feasible, costed correctly.
- Coordinate with manufacturing / production to understand capacity, lead times, cost drivers.
- Liaise with operations & logistics to ensure successful delivery and installation.
- Performance Tracking & Reporting: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for business development (number of leads / proposals, conversion rate, revenue generated, margin).
- Produce periodic sales forecasts, market analysis, competitive intelligence reports.
- Provide feedback to management on opportunities, risks, and required improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of business development or sales experience, ideally in building materials, prefabrication/modular construction, steel framing, or related industries.
- Strong understanding of light gauge steel frame construction, modular building systems, building codes / regulatory environment is a plus.
- Proven track record of closing deals, growing revenue, and developing new markets.
- Excellent presentation, negotiation, communication, and relationship building skills.
- Analytical mindset: ability to read cost estimates, structural drawings, assess technical feasibility.
- Self-motivated, results oriented, comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel (regional / national) as needed to meet clients, attend trade shows, site visits.
