Job summary

A community support organization in Stony Plain, Alberta, seeks a part-time baker to prepare and bake a variety of breads and desserts for residents and employees. The ideal candidate has over 6 months of experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team. Casual attire is accepted, and the position requires in-person work on a permanent basis.

Qualifications

  • 6+ months related experience and/or training from an accredited culinary program.
  • Ability to endure frequent periods of walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, and reaching with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

  • Determine quantities of desserts and breads according to menu.
  • Review menu and schedule personal workload.
  • Find recipes for a variety of baked goods.
  • Wash dishes and clean the Baker area.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment.
  • Organize baked goods in freezer.

Overview

Our Mission is to provide and manage independent, supportive and affordable housing to seniors, individuals and families thereby creating an inclusive community.

Position Purpose is to support food services by preparing and baking breads and desserts for residents and employees of Meridian Foundation.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Determines quantities of desserts and breads according to menu and number of persons to be served
  • Reviews menu and schedules personal workload
  • Finds recipes for a variety of desserts, cookies, breads, cakes, squares and pies
  • Washes dishes and pans, and cleans the Baker area in the kitchen
  • Checks and maintains equipment in good working order
  • Makes pies for craft and pie program
  • Organizes baked goods in freezer
  • Helps in putting away the grocery order
  • Operates a variety of kitchen equipment
  • Communicates grocery list to supervisor
  • Replenishes baking ingredients
  • General kitchen duties
Safety Responsibilities
  • Keeps self and others healthy and safe according to the Work Safe Alberta's Worker's Guide
  • Supports the Workplace Health and Safety Management System
  • Ensures compliance to health and safety by being compliant to policies, standards, practices, procedures, rules and legislation
Dress Code
  • Casual attire, uniforms are acceptable

Education and Experience
  • 6+ months related experience and / or training from an accredited culinary program; a certificate in food handling is an asset
