Job Description
On behalf of your client, a trailblazer + pioneer in their industry, we are thrilled to be looking for an Accounting Manager to join their thriving + purpose-driven organization based in Dartmouth.

This will be a full-time, in-office position that will appeal to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment + wants to make a direct impact with the work that they do. You will lead day-to-day financial operations while supporting broader financial strategy, working closely with external advisors + the executive team.

Role Summary

Reporting to the President, the Accounting Manager will oversee core accounting functions, payroll, budgeting + cash flow management. This is a high-responsibility, roll-up-your-sleeves role that requires strong attention to detail, initiative + a collaborative mindset.

Ideal Candidate: This position will be a great fit for someone with practical finance experience, ideally gained within a larger organization under a CPA-designated leader + who is ready to take ownership of the full financial picture with a growing startup. We're looking for someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, digging in and taking ownership in a role that will create impact and contribute to the club's growth trajectory.

Requirements
Day-to-Day Accounting & Payroll:

  • Lead all bookkeeping functions using Sage, including AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with CRA requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and support monthly close processes.
Financial Planning & Budgeting:
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Track actuals against budget and support department leads with financial reporting needs.
  • Provide simple financial models to support strategic planning (ex: cash flow, cost tracking)
Reporting & Compliance:
  • Collaborate with our financial partner to support quarterly financial reporting, tax filings, and audit requests.
  • Liaise with CRA, as needed, regarding payroll or corporate filings.
  • Ensure financial documentation and controls meet regulatory requirements.
Cash Flow & Financial Insights:
  • Monitor and report on cash flow and working capital needs.
  • Flag financial trends, risks, or opportunities to the President for decision-making.
  • Help assess pricing, margins, and spend alignment across key business functions.
Team & Operations Support:
  • Work closely with internal departments to support spending oversight and financial accountability.
  • Recommend improvements to financial processes, systems, and reporting workflows.
  • Contribute to building a strong financial foundation as the club grows.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting; experience supporting a senior CPA is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Sage or comparable accounting software.
  • Solid understanding of bookkeeping, payroll, and basic financial planning/reporting.
  • Intermediate Excel skills and ability to create clear, actionable financial summaries.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a proactive mindset.
  • Experience in a startup, sport, or nonprofit environment will be considered a tremendous asset.
  • Comfortable working independently and presenting to senior leadership.
Benefits
  • $70,000-$75,000 base salary.
