JOB PURPOSE:
The Procurement Director is responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic procurement initiatives for both Direct and Indirect spend categories across the organization. This role focuses on optimizing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), managing supply risk, and ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and procurement policies. The Procurement Director will provide strategic direction, drive procurement excellence, and foster strong supplier relationships to enhance organizational value.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Procurement Leadership:
- Develop and execute procurement strategies that align with organizational goals and support business objectives across Direct and Indirect spend categories.
- Lead the strategic planning process for procurement, including the identification of key spend categories, market analysis, and development of sourcing strategies.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives to improve procurement processes, enhance efficiency, and deliver cost savings.
Spend Analysis and Optimization:
- Perform in-depth analyses of current procurement expenditures to identify trends, opportunities for cost reduction, and areas for process improvement.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize the procurement lifecycle, from requisition to payment, ensuring value is maximized at every stage.
- Use data analytics and market intelligence to inform sourcing decisions and negotiate advantageous terms with suppliers
Supplier Management and Development:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, ensuring they deliver on performance, quality, and cost expectations.
- Lead negotiations for major contracts, ensuring terms and conditions are favorable and aligned with organizational objectives.
- Implement supplier development programs to enhance supplier capabilities, improve performance, and foster innovation.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Engage with internal stakeholders to understand their procurement needs, requirements, and challenges, providing tailored solutions and support.
- Facilitate effective communication between procurement and other business units to ensure alignment and address any issues or concerns.
- Develop and manage stakeholder engagement plans to ensure procurement strategies and initiatives are well-coordinated and supported.
Risk Management:
- Identify and assess potential supply chain risks, including market volatility, supplier reliability, and geopolitical factors.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure continuity of supply and minimize potential disruptions.
- Monitor and manage risks associated with procurement activities, including compliance, contractual obligations, and financial exposures
Compliance and Governance:
- Ensure all procurement activities are conducted in compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Develop and maintain procurement policies, procedures, and guidelines to reflect best practices and regulatory changes.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews of procurement processes to ensure adherence to governance frameworks and identify areas for improvement.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Procurement team, providing guidance, support, and training to enhance team capabilities.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth within the procurement function.
- Set clear performance objectives, conduct regular performance reviews, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) and/or professional certifications (e.g., CIPS, CPM) preferred.
- MCIPS (Chartered institute of Procurement and Supply), PMP (Project Management Professional) or SCMP (Supply Chain Management Professional) desirable.
- 10-15 years experience in Procurement and/or supply Chain with a proven record record of managing Direct and Indirect categories. Minimum 5 years of experience as Procurement Head/Director. FMCG experience is preferred.
- Extensive experience in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, and supplier management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams, drive change, and achieve results in a dynamic environment.
