A leading educational institution in Abu Dhabi is looking for a Head of English to enhance teaching standards and lead the English department. This role involves developing subject policies, managing teaching staff, and ensuring high achievement among students. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in teaching, QTS, and at least 3 years of full-time teaching experience, along with strong leadership and communication skills. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a supportive educational environment.

Responsible to: Head of Secondary
Responsible for: Teaching staff within the subject area
Within the context of the schools ethos, policies and procedures the Head of English will develop and implement subject policies, plans, targets and practices to:
Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge; secure knowledge of the subject and curriculum areas; foster and maintain pupils' interest in the subject; address misunderstandings.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject and curriculum areas and promote the value of scholarship.
Plan and teach well‑structured lessons, impart knowledge, develop understanding through effective use of lesson time.
Promote a love of learning and children's intellectual curiosity.
Set homework and plan other out‑of‑class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding pupils have acquired.
Reflect systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and approaches to teaching; contribute to the design and provision of an engaging curriculum within the relevant subject area(s); develop schemes of work and department resources; adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils.
Know when and how to differentiate appropriately using approaches which enable pupils to be taught effectively; understand how a range of factors can inhibit pupils' ability to learn and how best to overcome these.
Make accurate and productive use of assessment; use formative and summative assessment to secure pupils' progress; give regular feedback orally and through accurate marking; encourage pupils to respond to the feedback.
Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment; high expectations of behaviour and a framework for discipline with consistent praise, sanctions and rewards.
Efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources in line with the school's strategic plans and financial contexts.
Emphasises the importance of safety in all areas of the curriculum, communicating to the pupils the importance of a responsible attitude towards personal safety, the safety of others and respect for Aspen Heights British Schools property and equipment.
Perform all playground duties on time and with due diligence to safeguard Aspen students.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Ensure that all the necessary health and safety rules and procedures are being followed.
Maintain an awareness of all the health and safety measures to be taken when in school.
Communicates with parents on a regular informal basis and to deal with day to day queries.
Attends Parents Evenings as required and to provide accurate honest information regarding the progress of individuals at these meetings.
Reports to the parents in the form of written reports twice yearly or when required by the SLT.
All teachers are expected to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct. Teachers must maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour within and outside school by treating pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher's professional position.
Having regard for the need to safeguard pupils' wellbeing; showing tolerance of and respect for the rights of others; not undermining fundamental British values including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Ensuring that personal beliefs are not expressed in ways which exploit pupils' vulnerability or might lead them to break the law.
Teachers must have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school in which they teach and maintain high standards in their own attendance and punctuality.
Teachers must have an understanding of and always act within the cultural expectations of UAE and the policies and expectations of the school which set out their professional duties and responsibilities.
