Resident Engineer
Job summary
An international consulting engineering firm is seeking experienced Resident Engineers to lead major port and marine infrastructure projects in Southern Africa and Asia. The role involves managing daily construction operations, ensuring quality control, and coordinating with clients. Ideal candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, at least 5 years of relevant experience, and strong skills in project management and engineering design. Familiarity with health and safety regulations is essential. A competitive compensation package will be offered.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering or site supervision.
- Proven experience in contract administration and management, including interpreting contract terms.
- Professional Engineer registration (PrEng/CEng or equivalent) preferred.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day construction activities and ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Conduct on-site inspections and technical support for project management.
- Coordinate client communications and prepare progress reports.

Established in 1992 in Cape Town, South Africa, PRDW offers a comprehensive range of consulting engineering services including investigations, planning and feasibility studies, basic and detailed design, and supervision of construction. PRDW operates worldwide with offices in South Africa, Chile, Australia, UK, Panama, and Brazil. The group is known for their work with terminal design, marine structures, coastal processes, port planning, and various other specialized marine engineering services.
We are seeking experienced Resident Engineers to oversee major bulk material handling, marine and port infrastructure projects in Southern Africa and Asia. In this role, you will manage day-to-day construction activities, ensure compliance with design specifications, and maintain quality and cost control. Responsibilities include on-site inspections, contract administration, subcontractor management, health and safety compliance, technical support, client coordination, progress reporting, and participation in project meetings.
Mandatory:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering or site supervision
- Proven experience in contract administration and management, including interpreting contract terms, ensuring compliance, and managing variations, claims, and payment certifications
Preferred:
- Professional Engineer registration (PrEng/CEng or equivalent)
- Experience in port, coastal, or bulk material handling projects
Skills:
- Strong technical knowledge in engineering design, construction supervision, and project management
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations in construction
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with clients and subcontractors
- Ability to prepare progress reports and lead project meetings
- Proficiency in engineering and project management software (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project)
