Wernick Hire, the UK’s largest and longest‑standing provider of modular buildings and site accommodation, is looking for a dynamic Yard Operative/Driver to be a key player in our thriving depot!

Role Overview

We’re looking for an energetic and hands‑on Driver/Yard Operative to join us on a permanent basis. This is a dynamic dual‑role where no two days are the same! You’ll hit the road, covering our 3.5t delivery and collection vehicles, as well as our 7.5t toilet servicing vehicles. When you’re not driving, you'll roll up your sleeves in our busy accommodation yard, where you’ll be involved in cleaning, repairing, maintaining, and painting our portable accommodation and welfare units, ensuring they’re always in top condition for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive delivery and collection of hire equipment, groundhog units, and operating vehicles up to 3.5t, including the potential to tow mobile welfare units.
  • Drive site toilet service vehicles up to 7.5t.
  • Assist in the cleaning, repair, and painting of portable site accommodation and toilet units.
  • Carry out necessary repairs promptly.
  • Check and store furniture returned to the yard, ensuring proper removal and storage.
  • Maintain forklift truck in excellent working order.
  • Minimise material wastage and assist with safe loading/unloading of cabins, buildings, and materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organised yard and workshop at all times.
  • Adhere to current health and safety legislation to ensure a safe working environment.
Skills and Experience
  • Clean UK driving licence, ability to drive vehicles up to 7.5t GVW (C1 entitlement).
  • Driver CPC qualification and card preferred; attend annual Driver CPC training.
  • Basic DIY skills for minor repairs and maintenance of portable units.
  • B+E entitlement for towing mobile welfare units on a 3.5t vehicle.
  • Experience with tachographs beneficial.
  • Experience in plumbing, joinery or electrical work highly beneficial.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload effectively.

  • Tachograph knowledge.
  • Driver CPC qualification preferred.
