The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the workshop foreman in terms of any aspect of technical and or workshop duties to be performed.

Responsibilities
- Provide assistance to technicians with adjustment, maintenance, part replacement and repair of equipment/machines
- Preparation of machines for spray painting
- Cleaning and lubrication of machinery, vehicles, equipment, tools
- General cleaning of parts and/or equipment
- Ensuring cleanliness and neatness of work area, store and/or yard area – e.g. housekeeping, cleaning of oil spills, etc.
- On request – obtaining parts/tools/other products from store, signing for them, taking proper care during use and storage, returning spare parts/tools to the appropriate person/store
- Provide general physical assistance to technicians and workshop foreman as and when requested
- Take control of the shared tool store and ensure that all monthly tool inspections, mandatory load tests, pressure tests are done before due date
- Assist with forklift tyre fitment
- Machine movement and allocation as per ASEC requirements
- Act and work efficiently and safely conscious
- Operate equipment, use hand power tools and specialized hand tools correctly and safely with or without supervision
- Perform various other tasks the foreman might need the workshop assistant to do
Qualifications
- Must have knowledge of machines and tools and their uses
- Must have practical knowledge and experience of disassembling (stripping) and reassembling machines
- Must have practical knowledge and experience of various minor repairs to equipment/machines
- Excellent work ethic – honest, reliable, hardworking, dedicated and takes pride in work carried out
- Good communication skills with people at all levels in an organisation – must be able to converse comfortably in English; must be able to read and write English
- Ability to work with little or no supervision and still complete tasks timeously; enthusiastic, self‑motivated and can use own initiative
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Ability to manage own time – work according to a schedule and complete set tasks in time
- Ability to understand and follow safety measures and precautions
- Must be of sober habits, have high energy levels and general good health – physically able to carry, lift and move heavy objects; able to stand and walk for long periods; able to bend, stretch, twist and reach with body, arms and/or legs
- Ability to function effectively in a group and add value to the team/environment
- Ability and desire to improve skills and knowledge; eager to learn and able to translate knowledge into improved behaviour/actions
Desired Skills and Experience
- Forklift license
- Minimum Grade 10 or equivalent qualification, plus appropriate job‑related work experience (minimum of 3 years)
- Ability to drive a forklift, have forklift operator’s licence or have the ability and competence to successfully obtain a forklift operator’s licence
