Independent Contractor Opportunity: Trainee Business Consultant

Old Mutual Broker Distribution – Gauteng | Cape Town | Durban

Engagement Start Date: 1 March 2026

Old Mutual Broker Distribution is seeking high-potential independent incumbents who aspire to a long-term career supporting Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs). This engagement offers structured development, professional exposure and meaningful industry experience with one of South Africa’s most trusted financial services brands.

What This Engagement Involves
1. Foundational 4-Week Development Period (Offsite)

A full-time, offsite learning immersion that covers:

  • Core financial services knowledge
  • Adviser engagement and practice-management skills
  • Old Mutual product and market insights
  • Practical cohort-based learning with other Trainee Business Consultants

Incumbents must be fully available for the 4-week offsite programme and able to travel.

2. Field Exposure (6–12 Months)

After the initial development period, incumbents will rotate across selected branches to gain:

  • Practical experience alongside seasoned Business Consultants
  • Exposure to adviser servicing, sales enablement and practice engagement
  • Accelerated readiness to support adviser panels in future
3. Future Responsibilities After Successful Completion

Incumbents who successfully complete all development phases may be considered for allocation of a panel of 15–30 IFAs, where core activities include:

  • Relationship-building and practice support
  • Service excellence and technical enablement
  • Market insights and growth facilitation
Commercial Terms
  • A fixed monthly fee is paid for the duration of the development and field‑exposure phase.
  • Once an adviser panel is allocated, incumbents transition to a commission‑based model linked to adviser production.
  • Incumbents are responsible for managing their own tax affairs.
  • The relationship is governed by an Independent Contractor Agreement.
Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A recognised 3‑year degree or diploma (any field)
  • A valid driver’s licence
  • Access to reliable transport
  • Demonstrable work experience (any industry)
  • Experience in financial services is advantageous
  • CFP qualification advantageous
  • Availability to travel and be away from home during the 4‑week offsite programme
  • Strong communication, relationship and interpersonal capability
  • High learning agility, resilience and service orientation

(Soft‑skills and potential are weighted strongly in the selection process.)
