Job description

EDF Power Solutions Southern Africa, a merger of EDF Renewables and EDF's International Division in the region, is a fast‑growing leader in integrated energy solutions.

With 4 wind farms in operation and over 1.4 GW under construction, including wind, solar and battery storage, EDF is powering a greener, more sustainable future across Southern Africa.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and community‑rooted Social Performance Officer to support the implementation of socio‑economic development (SED and EnD) programmes across our operational renewable energy sites.

This role is central to building trust, fostering meaningful relationships, and ensuring that our social investments deliver lasting impact.

This is an exceptional opportunity for someone with a strong foundation in community engagement to gain exposure to a hybrid energy cluster that combines solar and wind technologies, operating under both the South African REIPPPP framework and a private offtaker model.

The role offers a rare chance to develop a diverse skill set in stakeholder engagement, socio‑economic development and energy sector dynamics—ideal for someone looking to grow their career in the renewable energy space.

What You’ll Do
  • Support the design and implementation of initiatives that address community needs
  • Conduct community needs analyses and due diligence visits
  • Monitor and report on social investment impact and quarterly spend
  • Collaborate with government departments and other IPPs
  • Manage relationships with implementing partners and ensure deliverables are met
  • Lead community engagement and grievance mechanism processes
  • Conduct bi‑monthly community visits and mobilise meetings
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Facilitate inclusive and meaningful participation in community forums
  • Prepare quarterly and ad hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide content for local media coverage of social investments
What We’re Looking For
Minimum Requirements (Non‑Negotiable)
  • Diploma or degree in Social Work, Development Studies, or a related field
  • 2‑4 years in Socio‑Economic Development / BBBEE
Preferred Qualifications & Certifications
  • Experience in REIPPPP projects
  • Minimum 2 years in REIPPPP projects
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong reporting and communication skills
  • Language proficiency in Xhosa and Afrikaans is advantageous
  • Willingness to travel up to 80 % of the time

At EDF Power Solutions, you’ll be part of a purpose‑driven team committed to delivering clean energy and meaningful socio‑economic development.

You’ll work on impactful projects that benefit communities and contribute to a sustainable future—while gaining valuable experience in a unique energy cluster that blends public and private sector dynamics.
