A recruitment agency in Durban North is seeking an experienced SHEQ Officer to develop and maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. The ideal candidate will have relevant certifications and proven experience in a manufacturing or construction environment. This role involves supervising teams, preparing reports, and ensuring adherence to SHEQ responsibilities.
Our client, based in Durban, is looking for an experienced SHEQ Officer to join their team.
Develop and maintain Health and Safety programs to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of ) and related regulations.
Implement and monitor the Permit-to-Work system to meet company and client standards.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring proper documentation and corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and other environmental regulations.
Conduct environmental audits and ensure proper waste management, pollution control, and energy efficiency measures are in place.
Implement and monitor waste segregation, disposal, and recycling initiatives.
Implement, monitor, and maintain the ISO Quality Management System.
Supervise and coordinate Quality Inspectors to ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards.
Conduct internal quality audits and coordinate non-conformance investigations and corrective actions.
Maintain and review inspection reports, calibration records, and test documentation.
Supervise Cleaners, Quality Inspectors, and Security Personnel, ensuring compliance with SHEQ standards, work procedures, and operational requirements.
Provide training, coaching, and support to ensure staff competence and awareness of SHEQ responsibilities.
Determine the strategic direction and work priorities (in conjunction with line management) for the continuous improvement of the Factory, Sites, and SHEQ Management Systems.
Facilitate Health and Safety Committee meetings, track actions, and verify close-outs.
Support and participate in internal and external SHEQ audits.
Compile, review, and maintain Safety Files for all site work per client, company, and legal requirements.
Conduct regular audits to verify compliance before and during projects.
Prepare monthly reports on Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality statistics for management review.
Ensure all statutory and client-required documentation is available for audits or inspections at any time.
Matric. Relevant tertiary qualificaiton advantageous.
Proven experience as a SHEQ Officer in a manufacturing / construction environment.
Certifications required : SAMTRAC, HIRA Certificate, Lead Incident investigation Certificate & Fall Protection Planner.
Experience in Safety File compilation and management for site work.
Proven track record in supervising teams.
