Job summary

A technology-driven company in KwaZulu-Natal seeks a Senior Specialist R&D Design to create product designs aligning with strategic goals. This role involves managing and implementing platform projects, designing products, and ensuring compliance with standards. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in R&D or production. Proficiency in 2D & 3D drawing, Microsoft Office, and SAP basic knowledge is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Experience in a production or R&D based environment (minimum 3 years).
• Product Development/Project Management experience would be advantageous.
• Good understanding of Sheet Metal Design Principles, Plastic & Electrical components would also be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage and implement platform projects from conceptual phase to implementation.
• Design products/components and make improvements/changes to existing products.
• Manage and implement cost reduction/quality improvement projects.
• Ensure products comply to standard requirements.
• Conduct laboratory experiments, testing prototypes, and collecting data.

The Senior Specialist R&D Design plays the role of creating a product design that fulfils the organization strategic goals while integrating the needs of marketing, purchasing, quality and the manufacturing department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• To manage and implement platform projects from conceptual phase to implementation
• To design products/components and or make improvements/changes to existing products/ components in line with market requirements and trends.
• To manage and implement cost reduction/quality improvement projects
• To ensure products comply to standard requirements
• Conduct laboratory experiments, testing prototypes, and collecting data to evaluate product performance.
• Keeping abreast of the latest scientific advancements and industry regulations.
• Working with cross-functional teams like marketing, engineering, and manufacturing to ensure smooth product development and commercialization.
• Studying market trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies to identify potential areas for innovation.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
