Job summary

A financial services company based in Durban is seeking a Senior Finance Manager to oversee operational finance functions including financial reporting, compliance, and audit management. The ideal candidate will possess a Bcom Accounting or Finance Degree along with a CA(SA) qualification and have at least 5 years of relevant experience in a multinational environment. This role requires strong leadership skills and knowledge of financial systems such as Microsoft Business Central and Power BI.

Job Description
Overview
  • As a Senior Finance Manager you will be part of the operational Finance team, whose key focus areas include entity level accounting and financial management for all group companies, taxation, audit readiness, treasury, accounts payable and receivable, procurement, payroll and system ownership.
  • This role is accountable for the operational management of the Finance team regarding financial reporting, audit management, statutory matters, accounts payable and receivable and tax compliance.
  • As this role manages the largest operational entity in the group structure, this role also manages various matters affecting the full Group. This includes, but is not limited to, group cash flow & treasury management, bank profile management, system administration, group accounts receivable collection and supplier masterfile management.
Responsibilities
Financial operations and reporting
  • Manage the monthly financial reporting process end to end
  • Review of management accounts, including commentary thereon
  • Preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS
  • Calculation of complex technical IFRS matters as required from time to time
  • Review of the monthly payroll process and reconciliations
Audit
  • Management of external and internal audit requirements and ensuring readiness for audit purposes
Taxation
  • Calculation of income tax in accordance with local legislation
  • Submission of appropriate tax returns as and when required & Review of indirect & payroll tax calculations and submissions
Leadership and management
  • Management and lead a team of professionals Treasury and banking
  • Group cash flow management, liquidity planning and working capital optimisation
  • Management of corporate banking profiles and user access
Accounts payable & accounts receivable
  • Develop and implement global policies, procedures, and controls for group AR/AP.
  • Drive automation and process improvement initiatives across the procure-to-pay cycle and customer collection cycle.
  • Maintain the group levels of authority matrix
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of creditors.
  • Manage the Group supplier masterfile and associated payment beneficiaries
  • Ownership of group supplier focused company policies
  • Drive timely collection of group receivables including detailed reporting thereon.
  • Implement credit control policies and customer risk assessments.
  • Calculate and substantiate any proposed bad debt provision for consideration by the Executive Leadership Team
  • Resolve disputes and manage escalations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare monthly AR/AP reports, ageing analysis, and KPIs for senior leadership.
Risk mitigation
  • Ensuring adequate insurance cover is maintained at all times
Statutory, compliance and internal control
  • Management of all entity level statutory reporting obligations and general statutory matters
  • Design, implementation and management of the internal control frameworks relevant to day-to-day finance operations
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and tax laws. Keep up to date with changes in financial regulations and adapt company practices accordingly.
Strategic planning
  • Contribute to the development of financial strategies and long-term financial planning.
  • Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Stakeholder management
  • Maintain relationships with external partners, such as banks, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Interact with company stakeholders, including executives and board members, to provide financial updates and insights.
Revenue
  • Review the accounting for monthly invoicing to customers and associated accruals
Systems
  • Perform the role of group system administrator on group finance software packages as required from time to time
Qualifications
  • Bcom Accounting or Finance Degree; CA(SA) Required
  • Experience: 5+ years’ experience post articles in a similar role
  • Industry Exposure: Multinational or large corporate environment
  • Systems knowledge: Microsoft Business Central and Navision or similar / Cognos TM1 / Power BI
