Introduction

A Consulting Engineers company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Civil Engineer, focusing on renewable energy projects to join their Civil Department, situated in Cape Town. The successful candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering design, with specific expertise in renewable energy projects, and will be responsible for the successful delivery of projects from concept to completion.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the civil engineering design and execution of renewable energy projects (solar, wind, and other green energy technologies).
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, designs, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental specialists, structural engineers, project managers and contractors to ensure integrated and effective project solutions.
  • Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to determine the suitability of project sites and offer design recommendations.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and legislation.
  • Manage project schedules, timelines, and resources to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Conduct reviews of project performance and implement improvements as necessary.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers and support staff within the department.
  • Utilize Civil 3D software for design and modeling, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in project execution.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (B.Eng/BS.c) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in Civil engineering, with a focus on renewable energy projects (solar, wind).
  • Professional Registration with ECSA, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D software at an expert level, with proven experience in using it for civil design and modeling tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Strong experience in renewable energy projects, including site development, design, and implementation.
  • Ability to identify challenges and develop practical solutions to meet project objectives while maintaining cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment, managing both internal and external relationships effectively.
  • Solid understanding of environmental and sustainability practices in civil engineering.
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, pavement design, hydraulics and storm water design in renewable energy projects.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining quality standards.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • A valid driver’s license and own vehicle are required for project site visits and meetings.
