Overview

Senior Bookkeeper Location : Johannesburg The Safomar Holdings Group is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our finance team. Reporting to the Group Financial Manager, this role is responsible for all aspects of financial management across a selection of Safomar Companies in our portfolio, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and providing accurate financial reporting and analysis to support decision-making. The successful candidate will manage day-to-day financial operations, oversee month-end and year-end processes, and play a key role in budgeting, cash flow management, and financial analysis. This position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting operations from transactional level to reporting in line with accounting principles.
  • Finalise accounts monthly up to Trial Balance level, including analysis of expenses and GL accounts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations (bank, debtors, creditors, inter-company).
  • Prepare and submit VAT reconciliations and returns, and manage SARS VAT audits.
  • Support and conduct month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, financial controls, and reporting standards.
  • Forecast cash flow positions weekly to ensure business liquidity and mitigate financial risks.
  • Coordinate and manage budgeting processes and financial forecasts in collaboration with management.
  • Engage in financial and cost reduction analyses, creating reports as required.
  • Liaise with auditors during financial year-end audits.
  • Drive adherence to finance policies, procedures, and systems across the group.
Requirements
  • Solid experience as a Senior Bookkeeper / Accountant.
  • Degree or diploma in Accounting (or equivalent qualification).
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Sage Evolution, MS Office, and accounting software.
  • Ability to work independently, with strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and client-facing abilities.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • SA citizenship or permanent residency essential.
  • Own transportation required.
