Job description
Overview

Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of The Pivot Academy.

Are you looking to truly make a difference? Join our dedicated team and help transform the lives of young people every day.

At Pivot we believe children deserve better. Our therapeutic nurture provision delivers excellent education and support to learners with complex social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) and other associated needs. We recognise each of our learners as unique, offering a bespoke pathway to reflect their individual needs and support successful outcomes.

In our academy we teach children and young people from 8 to 18 years, who have an EHCP and require a specialist placement, or those for whom mainstream education is simply not working, or those who have been excluded from school. Every day our teams do incredible work, making a huge difference to some complex and challenging learners, many of whom come to us with traumatic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Due to our growth, we are currently seeking enthusiastic and resilient Teaching Assistants (who we call Learning and Behaviour Mentors) to support our young people. We are looking for candidates who have education support experience with Key Stage 3, 4 or 5, who can engage and inspire learners with SEMH and/or trauma needs. We have several classroom support and 1:1 roles available so an SEN specialism would be preferred but is not essential.

Our Teaching Assistants play a key role in addressing the barriers to learning, working with learners in the classroom and enabling them to achieve their full potential. Teaching Assistants also work as Key Workers, developing strong relationships with home to enable seamless support. At key times, Teaching Assistants also lead interventions to create meaningful personal development and learning. Through innovative, creative and professional practice, you will be able to engage our young people and inspire them to learn new skills and develop their self-esteem. Although this area can be challenging, we can offer the right candidate a supportive and fun working environment. We’re not looking for perfection — just passion, perseverance, and a genuine drive to help young people thrive.

Benefits

Working at Pivot will give you a real chance to change our learner’s lives and we truly believe you will find working here a rewarding experience. In addition, Pivot has a vast array of benefits for staff including but not limited to:

  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) by Prohms – 24/7 confidential support and guidance
  • Eye test reimbursement for all staff
  • Blue Light Card eligibility
  • Professional development – CPD opportunities, apprenticeships and leadership development
  • Death in Service – financial payment and wellbeing support
  • Flexible working and early finish Fridays
