Job summary

An established educational institution is seeking a Semi-Skilled Trailer Technician in Mkhambathini Local Municipality. The candidate will assist in the maintenance, repair, inspection, and servicing of trailers and related equipment. Qualifications include matriculation or equivalent and 2-3 years of experience in heavy-vehicle maintenance. The role requires mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and basic knowledge of trailer brakes and electrical systems. A valid driver's license is advantageous. This position offers R60 per hour.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in a trailer or heavy-vehicle maintenance environment.
  • Valid driver's licence (Code 10/EC advantageous).
  • Experience in a transport/logistics workshop is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine maintenance and repairs on trailers.
  • Perform brake adjustments and minor repairs.
  • Conduct tyre checks and changes.
  • Support qualified mechanics with major repairs.

We are currently looking for a Semi-Skilled Trailer Technician to assist in the maintenance, repair, inspection, and servicing of trailers and related fleet equipment, ensuring roadworthiness, safety compliance, and operational readiness.

  • Matric / Grade 12 minimum (N3 Mechanical advantageous)
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a trailer or heavy-vehicle maintenance environment
  • Basic knowledge of:
    • Trailer brakes & suspension systems
    • Axles, wheel bearings, and hubs
    • Electrical systems (12V/24V)
    • Welding/cutting tools
  • Valid driver's licence (Code 10/EC advantageous)
  • Experience in a transport/logistics workshop is beneficial
  • Mechanical aptitude & problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with routine maintenance and repairs on trailers (flat-deck, tautliner, tanker, super-link, etc.)
  • Perform brake adjustments, wheel bearing checks, suspension component checks, and minor repairs
  • Assist with air-brake system repairs and fault finding under supervision
  • Replace lights, wiring, reflectors, and basic electrical trailer components
  • Conduct tyre checks, tyre changes, and wheel torquing
  • Assist with welding and fabrication work (basic MIG/Arc welding skills an advantage)
  • Conduct trailer inspections and report defects
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and tools
  • Follow workshop safety, PPE, and operational procedures
  • Complete job cards and assist with service records
  • Support qualified mechanics with major repairs when required.
