My client in the retail sector is seeking a highly skilled Payroll Clerk to manage and oversee payroll operations.

This is a key role ensuring that employees are paid accurately, on time, and in full compliance with legislation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process the payroll, including final pay runs, reports, and pay slips.
  • Manage leave processes, staff expense claims, and EFT payments.
  • Maintain employee records, including new hires, transfers, terminations, and other changes.
  • Administer statutory deductions, employee benefits, and pension / provident fund processes.
  • Prepare and submit monthly statutory returns (UIF, EMP, and COID / WCA) and assist with EMP reconciliations.
  • Liaise with retirement fund and medical aid administrators.
  • Prepare monthly journals and reconcile salaries-related general ledger accounts.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance for audit purposes.
  • Perform ad hoc duties as required.
Job Experience and Skills Required
  • Matric or equivalent; Accounting / tertiary qualification advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years payroll administration experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of VIP Premier System (essential); experience with Sage People advantageous.
  • Advanced Excel and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of the ESS system for leave management is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of payroll principles, employee tax legislation, and HR policies.
  • High attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work under pressure.
