Division for Research Development
Reseach-related Information and Data Support Officer (Post Level 10) – Stellenbosch Campus
Ref. ANO/225/0925

The Division for Research Development (DRD) is tasked with the advancement, facilitation and support of research at Stellenbosch University (SU). Our support directly contributes to SU's core strategic themes as described in the strategic framework: it strengthens and grows the institutional knowledge base; ensures sustainability (in particular financial); promotes academic staff and postgraduate student success; and promotes diversity through research capacity development and support. The Division is divided into clusters/offices that support ethics and integrity, research contracts, national and international funding, postgraduate studies, postdoctoral research fellows, and research information and strategic initiatives.

Duties/Pos Vereistes

Annual submission of research outputs to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

  • Quality control of validated publications.
  • Quality control of DHET spreadsheets.
  • Quality control of Human Resource data.
  • Following up on outstanding information in the electronic information management system for research outputs (Symplectic Elements, Annual Collections Module (ACM)).
  • Quality control of the journals database.
  • Investigating publications not nominated or not claimed for subsidy purposes.
  • Assisting with system reports and requests for future reporting.
  • Assisting with creative outputs information validation.
  • Maintaining and regularly updating the DRD's lists (services and distribution lists).
  • Maintaining and regularly updating the DRD's shared information platform for staff (policies, guidelines, information sets, templates, etc).
  • Assisting with the collection and extraction of research-related information datasets for reporting purposes (Quarterly Management Reports, Annual Report to Senate, etc).
  • Assisting with the collection of research-related information required for the DRD website and other platforms and reports.
  • Collating research-related news from SU news carousel and other sources for reporting and the DRD Research for Impact digital platform.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (NQF 6) focusing on information management or data analytics.
  • Three years' relevant experience in an information management/data analytics position.
  • Excellent computer proficiency with the Microsoft Office package, specifically advanced competency with MS Excel.
  • Advanced competency in working with large information/data sets.
  • Advanced data analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to extract, collect and organise information/data from various sources according to set criteria.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to function independently and effectively within a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and function under high pressure.
