Job Description
A fast-growing accounting firm, recognised for its high-quality service and innovative approach, is seeking a motivated and versatile Accountant with knowledge of NPO/NGO accounting to join its team. The successful candidate will be exposed to a wide range of responsibilities across taxation, finance, and accounting for both for-profit businesses and non-profit companies (NPCs).
With a rapidly expanding portfolio of non-profit clients, the firm is particularly interested in an individual who understands the unique financial, compliance, and reporting requirements of organisations with s18A PBO status. The position is a Hybrid position, part office part remote based in Pretoria, in the greater Lynnwood area.
Key Responsibilities
- Taxation and Compliance
- Prepare and submit tax returns (individual, corporate, VAT, PAYE, provisional tax, EMP501, IT3).
- Liaise with SARS regarding audits, queries, registrations, and compliance matters.
- Advise clients on South African tax regulations (Income Tax Act, VAT, PAYE, UIF, Workmen’s Compensation).
- Financial Accounting (For-Profit and Non-Profit)
- Prepare financial statements in compliance with applicable standards.
- Perform reconciliations, accruals, and journal processing.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for clients.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure integrity of client books.
- Assist with end-of-year reporting and audit preparation.
- Manage accounting and reporting requirements for NPCs with PBO and s18A status.
- Prepare donor, board, and impact reports to meet governance and funding requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant NPC legislation, tax concessions, and reporting obligations.
- Advise NPC clients on best-practice financial governance and grant management.
- Client and Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the Partner on client engagements.
- Support a growing and diverse client portfolio across multiple industries.
- Contribute to process improvements and the implementation of best practices.
Requirements
- Completed articles at an accredited accounting or auditing firm.
- Professional membership: SAIPA, CIMA, or SAIT (advantageous if already registered).
- Minimum 2 years’ post-articles experience across tax and accounting.
- Proven experience with both for-profit entities and non-profit companies (NPCs, s18A PBOs).
- Demonstrated track record in preparing NPC board packs, donor reporting, and impact reporting.
- Strong working knowledge of SARS e-filing and liaising with SARS.
- Practical experience with Caseware, Xero, and PaySpace (non-negotiable). Exposure to Sage, Pastel, or QuickBooks advantageous.
- Solid Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
