Requirements
  • Applicants must preferably have a mining engineering background and have earned a doctorate in rock engineering
  • National Research Foundation (NRF) rating or potential to apply for NRF rating
  • Teaching experience or potential to teach at university level
  • A good research track record with more than **** (for associate professor) citations with evidence of H‑index
  • 30 (15 for associate professor) journal publications or equivalents as defined in the South African Department of Higher Education and Training guidelines
  • Evidence of local and international collaborations
  • Definite advantages include operational rock engineering experience in the mining industry, rock engineering laboratory work experience, supervision to completion of postgraduate research work (PhDs and MScs), membership of a mining‑related professional body, and registration or eligibility to register as a professional engineer (or equivalent)
Duties
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate lecturing
  • Supervision of postgraduate research
  • Undertaking personal research, including attracting research grants and earning research income
  • Mentoring early‑career academics

  • Participation in administrative activities at the School, Faculty and University levels
