A manufacturing company is seeking a permanent Production Supervisor based in La Mercy, Durban. The ideal candidate will supervise production activities, maximize productivity, and ensure efficiency and safety. Job description

Endless Summer Technologies, a division of Johnson Outdoors, is seeking a permanent Production Supervisor based in La Mercy, Durban. This individual is required to supervise and coordinate production activities/functions which include analyzing scheduling needs, managing the production schedule, maximizing productivity and ensuring efficiency, high quality, safety and cost effectiveness. Fosters an environment of teamwork and continuous improvement

Responsibilities
  • Supervises the daily activities for a team, ensures productivity, sets priorities and manages work schedules. Provides input on resource planning and policy development. Trains/coaches team members on performance, completes performance evaluations and recommends pay actions. Participates in and provides input into hiring and termination decisions.
  • Assesses, plans and schedules production to ensure product availability and shipping requirements are met.
  • Oversees and coordinates daily activities and the completion of scheduled work to maximize productivity, minimize cost and increase quality. Responsible for achievement of department efficiency goals and standards, tracks downtime, and develops/implements plans accordingly. Makes recommendations for material, workflow and facilities to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Troubleshoots production problems and ensures machinery, equipment and facilities are functioning and operating properly for efficient production. Reports process, facility or equipment problems, and collaborates with management and maintenance to ensure safety and minimize downtime.
  • Provides manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data.
  • Responsible for ensuring health and safety, monitoring security and ensuring good housekeeping/cleanliness.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • National Diploma in Production or Operations management or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Production Supervisor role or similar role preferred
  • Typically requires 5 or more years of experience in manufacturing / consumer goods production or assembly leading and coordinating the work of production staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities to effectively supervise large groups of people and work under deadlines while maintaining positive employee relations.
  • Ability to build high performing teams that involve mutual accountability for results and demonstrate goal orientated behaviors.
  • Ability to manage conflict through assertive and decisive behavior while maintaining composure in difficult situations.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills to speak clearly and persuasively, speak in front of a group of employees and write clearly and informatively.
  • Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or similar products. Ability to develop and comprehend spreadsheets of varying complexity.
