Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate desludging bridges according to schedule.
• Take samples and test for sludge density on operational bridges.
• Report injuries and incidents to the Sludge Supervisor.
• Transfer desludging bridges and raise pumps.
• Clean bridge platform and cabin daily.
• Wash down pump sparge pipes.

Job Advert Summary

The purpose of this role is to scour sedimentation tanks by means of bridges thus ensuring the efficient removal of sludge.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12
• NQF level 4/ N3 Water and Waste water treatment plant
• Desired qualification: National diploma in Water Care or equivalent
• Two years water purification experience
• Computer literate
• Class IV Process Controller Classification
• A valid driver’s licence and the ability to pass Rand Water’s K53 test.
• Physically fit and strong

Primary Duties

• Operation of Desludging bridges according to schedule.
• Samples - Taking of samples and testing for sludge density on operational bridges done hourly and make adjustment accordingly.
• Occupational Health and Safety - reporting of injuries and incidents to the Sludge Supervisor
• Transfer of desludging bridges.
• Raise pumps.
• Move bridge to transfer bay-wheels aligned with rails.
• Cleaning duties.
• Cleaning off a bridge platform and cabin.
• Cabin and platform to be cleaned daily.
• Washing down of the pump sparge pipes - sparge pipes to be free of mud and fish.
• Wear PPE
• Reporting of unsafe acts to the Sludge Supervisor.
• Reporting of unsafe conditions which may result in injury or harm to Rand Water employees.
