Part-Qualified ACCA Trainee

Department: Early Careers

Employment Type: Fixed Term Contract

Location: Johannesburg

Description

Sumer Offshore Services are a people-first accounting and advisory firm based in Johannesburg. We are proud to be part of the Sumer Group (a UK Top 12 Accountancy firm) with accountancy practices across the UK and Ireland.

As we continue to grow our ACCA offering in South Africa, we are now inviting applications from part-qualified ACCA candidates and SAICA / SAIPA experienced trainees who are looking to continue and complete their ACCA qualification in a globally connected environment.

This opportunity is well suited to:

  • Trainees currently completing SAICA or SAIPA articles who wish to transition to ACCA
  • ACCA trainees at other firms seeking stronger international exposure, structure, or progression

Whether you’re drawn to Audit or Accounts, you’ll earn your ACCA qualification, build international experience, and gain the skills you need to become a fully qualified professional.

This programme is ideal for current Audit / Accounting Trainees with 1-2 years' experience seeking an alternative pathway to traditional training local contracts, with exposure to international clients, UK working practices, and long-term global career opportunities.

About Us

Based in our Johannesburg office, you will work closely with UK-based teams, supporting one of our UK businesses. From day one, you’ll gain hands‑on experience across a range of accounting and/or audit activities, including preparing accounts, supporting audits, and working with real clients in a professional services environment.

This is an ideal role for someone who already has a solid technical foundation and is ready to build depth, responsibility, and long-term career momentum within an ACCA-aligned environment.

You’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive team where curiosity, enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn are valued just as highly as academic achievement.

The Programme

You’ll join a structured training contract, aligned to your current level of ACCA progress and experience.

As part of the Sumer Academy, our group-wide early careers development programme, you'll benefit from:

  • Continued professional development alongside trainees across our international offices
  • A blend of technical training, professional skills development, and on-the-job learning
  • Support to complete your ACCA qualification while gaining meaningful client exposure

Where applicable, prior experience and exam progress will be recognised and taken into account.

What's On Offer
  • Ongoing ACCA study support, including paid study leave and course fees
  • A supportive transition for candidates moving from SAICA or SAIPA pathways
  • Buddy and mentoring support from experienced professionals
  • Group-wide cohort training through the Sumer Academy
  • Exposure to UK clients, teams, and international standards
  • Opportunities to grow your career beyond qualification
What we're looking for:

You may be:

  • Part-qualified ACCA, or actively working towards ACCA
  • Currently completing SAICA or SAIPA articles and looking to transition to ACCA
  • An experienced trainee with 1–2.5 years’ experience in audit and/or accounting

You’ll also be:

  • An effective communicator - confident in listening and expressing ideas clearly with clients and colleagues.
  • Collaborative - a team player who enjoys sharing ideas and working together to achieve great results.
  • Time efficient - able to balance work and study with good organisation and prioritisation.
  • A problem solver - curious, adaptable and ready to take on challenges.
  • Results focused - proud to deliver a high standard of work and service.
  • Keen to learn - enthusiastic about developing your skills and career.
Why consider this move?

This role is ideal for trainees who:

  • Want a globally recognised qualification and international career alignment
  • Are seeking broader exposure and structured development
  • Feel their current training path no longer aligns with their long-term goals
  • Value structured learning, mentorship, and long-term development

If your application is shortlisted you will receive a link to our online assessment via our partner provider, Canditech, in the first two weeks of February 2026 where you will have 7 days to complete this.

The next step in the process is our in-person assessment centre, the dates of these are the 25th of February, 27th of February, and 2nd of March 2026 in our Johannesburg office.
