Job Summary

ProSidian seeks an experienced Oil and Gas Fiscal/Economic Modeler / Revenue Specialist to support a U.S. Government International Technical Assistance Program (ITAP) in Cape Town, South Africa. The role will provide technical assistance, training, and analytical expertise on regulatory, economic, fiscal, and environmental dimensions of national development for energy and non-energy resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a leading industry adviser to regulated businesses, economic regulators, law firms, and investors internationally.
  • Provide critical insight and expert reports on regulatory reviews, strategic decision-making, public policy debates, M&A transactions, and competition cases.
  • Perform financial modeling and valuation of energy assets and support regulatory and M&A due diligence.
  • Design price controls and regulatory frameworks for economic impact assessments and cost‑benefit analyses.
  • Develop and apply bespoke approaches to solve complex, unstructured problems in a logical manner.
  • Research, gather information, manage, and carry out quantitative industry and market analysis and report findings in a clear, concise, and structured way internally and to clients.
  • Develop and implement advanced methods for capacity expansion modeling, including representation of investor behavior and market design across multiple timescales.
  • Collaborate with analysts on related modeling tools and share outputs across models.
  • Communicate findings through peer‑reviewed journal articles and professional presentations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related field; advanced degree in statistics, actuarial science, or applied mathematics preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of consecutive employment in a comparable role, with recent experience in the Oil and Gas sector.
  • Proficient in independent logical thinking, problem definition, data collection, fact establishment, and actionable recommendation.
  • Strong project management skills: ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Experience presenting research findings to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience with equilibrium‑based modeling (MPECs, MCPs) or behavior‑based approaches is strongly preferred.
  • Programming skills in GAMS, Julia, Python, or R; familiarity with SAS, R, SQL, Bloomberg, Capital IQ, or Thomson Reuters is an asset.
  • MS Office proficiency: Word, Excel, PowerPoint with additional analytical software desirable.
  • Relevant experience in Oil and Gas regulation at a state/federal regulatory body or consultancy preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including formal report and presentation writing.
