Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking an experienced senior leader to oversee the ICT Management Information Systems (MIS) function. This role involves developing the enterprise information architecture, managing MIS staff, and ensuring alignment with business objectives. The ideal candidate should have at least 8 years in MIS, with strong leadership and strategic skills. Preference is given to applicants from designated groups in line with equity targets. The position is based in Pretoria, South Africa.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years’ MIS experience with at least 3 years at managerial level.
  • OR minimum 10 years’ MIS experience with at least 5 years at managerial level.

Position Purpose

Actively participates in long‑range strategy planning and translates strategic requirements into a usable enterprise information architecture, which may include an enterprise data model and an associated meta‑model to guide enterprise solution development and achieve consistency of information assets across the application portfolio.

The incumbent is responsible for the overall design of the enterprise‑wide data/information architecture, which maps to the enterprise architecture (EA) and balances the need for access against security and performance requirements.

Defines data/information architecture standards, policies and procedures for the organization.

Provides senior leadership, vision, and direction for management information systems, in support of the enterprise's business objectives and requirements.

Position Outputs
  • ICT Information Architecture Planning – Responsible for providing the strategic direction for the ICT MIS function on an enterprise level and interfacing with business unit executives and other IT functional area executives to define information requirements.
  • Integration, transformation, modelling and data validation strategy alignment – Align information requirements to the TE organization mission, goals and business drivers.
  • Management – Lead the planning and execution of the Transnet Engineering ICT MIS department, including both structured and unstructured information.
  • Information Systems – Analyse, design, deploy, utili­ze and enhance information systems to support business objectives.
  • ECM Operational Model – Plan, design, develop and maintain an ECM operational model for Transnet Engineering.
  • Operational Information – Provide all information requirements to support the SAP‑ERP system, including development of utility programmes and ASAP programmes.
  • Emerging Technologies – Improve information usefulness by tracking emerging technologies and evaluating their applicability to business goals and operational requirements.
  • Research – Identify user requirements by researching and analysing user needs, preferences, objectives and working methods.
  • Knowledge – Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organisations.
  • Governance – Implement MIS governance by creating MIS policies, standards, procedures and utility programmes to govern the MIS development process.
  • Staff Management – Manage and develop all MIS staff, up‑skilling and training personnel.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum Degree / Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology or a relevant ICT qualification.
  • Minimum 8 years’ Management Information System (MIS) experience or relevant experience in a large enterprise, with at least 3 years at managerial level or specialist experience.
  • OR minimum 10 years’ Management Information System (MIS) experience or relevant experience in a large enterprise, with at least 5 years at managerial level or specialist experience.
