Overview

This role is based at Amandelbult Complex, Tumela Mine 15 East, Thabazimbi, South Africa.

Job Description

The Mine Overseer has the legal accountability with a 2.14.1 and a 2.13.12 appointment in terms of the MHSA section 26 of 1996. The main responsibility is to ensure that a dedicated section of the operational process operates effectively from a current and future best practice perspective. The Mine Overseer is responsible for managing and planning the development and provision of mining work practices, structures and services to contribute to safety, health, and sustained profitability of the Operational Area. The role involves managing and coordinating the following:

  • Mining process planning, preparing and breaking predetermined blocks of ground, efficiently and safely.
  • Delivering quality ore to the ore pass as agreed.
  • Reviewing and introducing mining best practices to enhance long-term performance efficiencies.
  • Negotiating with Engineering Department to source and supply determined material to operations.
  • Giving appropriate instructions and supervision to line management including service departments to safeguard people, equipment, material and environment against damage, injury or loss.
  • Controlling shift rosters, sickness implications, training and leave schedules to ensure the section is adequately resourced.
  • Initiating and monitoring operations improvement projects.
  • Liaison with Human Resources on HR/Labour planning.
  • Supporting overall Business Planning.
  • Investigating and reporting any incidents or injuries.
  • Taking proactive preventative and corrective action.

This role is in the Mining department at a Band 6/10 level reporting to the Section Manager.

  • Blasting Certificate
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Mining Degree/Diploma will be an added advantage
Experience Required
  • At least 5 years mining experience at metalliferous mines

  • Mine Overseer 2.14.1 plus 2.13.12 appointment
Technical knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act
