Requirements
  • An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner; HPCSA registration as an independent medical practitioner. Current HPCSA registration for 2025/2026.
  • Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must have successfully completed the Diploma in Primary Emergency Care.
  • Must have successfully completed FCEM Part 1.
  • Fully completed new Z83
Duties
  • Perform duties according to guidelines from the Department of Emergency Medicine, University of Witwatersrand, and Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
  • Perform Commuted Overtime.
  • Clinical training, teaching, and assisting in the examination of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Interviewing, investigating, diagnosing, and overseeing the treatment of patient-related administrative duties.
  • Participation in departmental meetings, journal clubs, case presentations, lectures, and ward rounds.
  • Ensure that administration and record keeping is done in the department.
  • Undertaking research.
  • Attending and presenting at academic meetings.
  • Encourage good working relationships between colleagues and departments.
  • Availability for ongoing assessments.
  • Signing annual performance agreements and availability for quarterly reviews.

  • These positions will be joint appointments between the Gauteng Department of Health and the following academic institutions: University of Witwatersrand / University of Pretoria and/ Sefako Makgatho University.
