Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in the automation and industrial engineering sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing mechanical systems and components related to automation projects. Experience in equipment installation, project execution, and site commissioning will be considered highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems for automated machinery and industrial installations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, control systems, and software engineers to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and mechanical system simulations to validate concepts and ensure optimal performance.
  • Oversee or assist in the installation, commissioning, and testing of mechanical systems on-site.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including CAD drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and specifications.
  • Participate in project planning, including cost estimation, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Evaluate existing systems for performance improvements, safety enhancements, and optimisation opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with South African engineering codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in technical support and training of maintenance personnel and clients.
  • Manage contractors and suppliers when required during the installation phase.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or BSc) or Equivalent from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years experience in a mechanical engineering role, preferably in the automation or industrial sector.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, materials selection, and production techniques.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor.
  • Hands-on installation or commissioning experience will be highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with industrial standards such as ISO, SANS, and OSHA.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally for site work and project execution.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
  • Experience with robotic systems, conveyors, actuators, or pneumatic systems.
  • Understanding of PLC integration and working alongside control systems engineers.
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • High level of attention to detail and a proactive, solution-driven mindset.
