Main Purpose of the Position

To develop, manage, and maintain efficient and effective financial services to the business units that will achieve the current financial strategy through planned and effective processes.

Duties and Responsibilities
Development and Implementation of Strategy
  • Optimize the function of Financial Accounting to achieve maximum efficiency and service levels to provide accurate and timeous financial information for management to make informed decisions.
  • Prepare and review the radio station’s monthly financial report.
  • Analyze actual income and expenditure.
  • Review reconciliations and take corrective action timeously.
  • Coordinate with radio stations to compile annual budget and forward future planning.
  • Ensure the processing of financial transactions adheres to SABC’s financial policies and accounting procedures.
  • Review and action requests from internal and external auditors.
  • Perform ad‑hoc financial investigations.
  • Assist, drive, or participate in projects as they occur during the financial year or any ad‑hoc requests from the financial manager.
Business Operational Efficiency
  • Process data into the financial system to reflect correct and accurate reports.
  • Manage the General Ledger Book.
  • Management and Administration of Capex.
  • Maintain Fixed Asset Register.
  • Manage monthly General Ledger Reconciliation and clearing of GL accounts.
  • Prepare monthly Creditors Reconciliation.
  • Prepare month‑end and ad‑hoc reports.
  • Cash Management.
  • Authorize Freelance payments.
  • Check and approve personal claims.
  • Review and approve purchase requisitions.
  • Review and approve trade exchange requests.
  • Approve sundry payments.
  • Ad‑hoc requests from management and clients (internal and external).
  • Manage contracts (writers and freelance, etc.).
  • Manage Trade Payables and Trade Receivables.
  • Settlement of all travel and operational advances.
  • Prepare and post monthly provisions and accruals journals.
Governance Risk and Compliance
  • All financial transactions to comply with IFRS, legislation, the delegation of Authority framework, and SABC policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for overseeing the filing and storage of all financially related documentation.
  • Manage risk.
  • Provide advice and guidance to stations with finance processes and policies.
  • Provide reports on deviations in policies, i.e., payment without contracts.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures of all financial transactions.
Stakeholder Management
  • Alert management of any discrepancies.
  • Liaise with Stakeholder Management on ad‑hoc finance requests.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders and maintain professional standards always.
Inherent/Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
  • National Diploma or Degree in Financial Management or an equivalent qualification (NQF6/7).
Experience
  • At least 6 years’ experience in Finance.
Knowledge
  • Business planning and complexity theory.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Public Financial Management Act and other applicable legislation.
  • Knowledge of Government Regulations and IFRS, and financial accounting standards.
  • Knowledge of financial and commercial matters with a specific focus on costs, profits, markets, new business opportunities, and activities that will bring the largest return.
  • Good judgement to make rational, realistic, and sound decisions based on consideration of all the facts and alternatives available.
