PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To provide a professional management accounting service to management and staff to improve efficiency, maximise profits and to supply meaningful, relevant and accurate information timeously as a tool for decision making.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- BCom Degree or NQF 7 Equivalent is essential
- Cost and Management/Financial Accounting Honours Degree is desirable
- Understanding mining business processes is essential
- Management accounting techniques application is essential
- 5-7 years finance experience in the mining environment is essential
- 35 years experience in budgeting, reporting, and financial forecasting in a managerial role is essential
COMPETENCIES
- Understanding of mining business processes
- In depth knowledge of best accounting practices - cost control and planning
- Knowledge of specific accounting packages, i.e. SAP, Excel
- Knowledge of interpreting financial information
- Knowledge of applicable legislation - international accounting standards
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Implements and maintains adequate financial and budgetary controls, which include management reporting, to ensure the safeguarding and maximising of the company's physical and monetary assets.
- Provides user support and service to line and functional management by providing proactive information to ensure timeous logistical supplies so that overall objectives are met.
- Collects and coordinates budget/forecasting inputs and supplies output reports as required by budget holders, and to negotiate and challenge budget holders to ensure that the norm is zero based guided by required efficiency standards.
- Guides line and functional management through analysis and evaluation of business processes to ensure theobjective and economically value-added business decisions are made to underline and support the overall company strategies.
- Provides an auditing and mentoring function to ensure good corporate governance are adhered to.
- Executes ad hoc investigations and evaluations of projects or new initiatives, to ensure continuous improvement and that business cases are achieved.
- Manages all people management systems and process within his/her span of control to create a winning culture.
- Takes ownership of own career development and growth through keeping abreast with changes and development in the financial environment and the development of skills and competencies to ensure that dynamic job requirements are met.
- Sets and establishes goals for budget adherence and control best practice principles in process and application.
- Drives initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity and reducing operating costs to increase the cost effectiveness of projects.
- Manages and approves annual planning by compiling operational, capex and labour budgets for the relevant areas.
- Controls and scrutinises spend against approved budgets (operational, capex and labour), whilst assessing variances and monitoring remedial action within area.
- Assesses/Reviews and authorises payments in line with approved budget and policy for processing.
